Manufacturer Improves Efficiency 18% with Metal-Cored Wire

By: Hobart Brothers

Webster Industries has been able to improve throughput, reduce scrap rates and simplify inventory due to the efficiencies metal-cored wire provides. The company standardized on Hobart® FabCOR® 86R wire in the same diameter throughout many of its welding operations. This allowed Webster Industries to reduce part numbers in their stock, along with inventory management, and spend more time focused on productivity improvements. Being able to weld through mill scale furthers efficiencies — welders can work faster by eliminating pre- and post-weld cleaning of parts.

Fabcore 86R has significantly improved our efficiency. We’ve seen an approximate 18 to 20% increase in efficiency, leading to much better throughput. Our scrap rate has also decreased on parts where we use the Fabcore wire. This allows us to standardize our welding wire across almost all our welding processes in terms of the wire itself and its size. This has helped reduce our inventory and the number of different part numbers we need to stock.

We tend to use a much lower wire speed, meaning we use less wire for the same weld size. Additionally, we can weld faster because we don’t have to clean our parts or burn through mill scale before cleaning up.
