Hobart Helps PKM Steel Build Large Projects Others Can’t
PKM Steel’s reputation is built on doing what others can’t. To stay competitive, they turned to Hobart. PKM takes on large projects that become city-enhancing landmarks, so they require world-class expertise, skill and materials in their steel fabrication shop. To exceed customer expectations and stay competitive, they also need consistently high-quality filler metals and responsive support. That’s why PKM partners with Hobart. Using Hobart® steel welding wire, PKM gets the fast production speeds and high deposition rates they need — and when on-site support is necessary, they know that Hobart specialists will be there quickly.

We’re building infrastructure. We’re building buildings that create jobs for people, and we have the personnel and the knowledge to build things other people haven’t ever built before.
PKM, with an 80-ton lifting capacity and with a facility with a trust Bay that’s almost 80 ft wide by 520 ft long, can build structures that a lot of other facilities can’t build. PKM also has other fabricators that come and ask them to build things that they’re not capable of building.
While everyone does quality, PKM believes they do quality particularly well. There are always variables where issues can arise, but using Hobart wire eliminates one of those variables. The Hobart wire has been instrumental in a lot of what they do, and they don’t have problems with it, which helps in the end. Their customers are looking for the same thing from them and are not looking for any problems, which is what they get from Hobart.
When PKM switched to using Hobart wire, it sped up their production. It’s much more efficient, and the deposition rate is much higher. Because of the expectations and the relationship they have with Hobart, it’s almost unfair because they have come to expect on-time deliveries, have their representatives there when needed, and help them troubleshoot. It’s become commonplace for them to know that Hobart will perform for them.
