APPLETON, Wis. (September 7, 2016) — Miller Electric Mfg. Co.and Hobart plan to exhibit at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL® 2016 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, September 26-28, where the companies will showcase the latest in welding products for the mining repair and maintenance industry.

Visitors to booths 7285 and 7289 can find technology solutions designed to address productivity, quality, safety and cost issues in their mining operations. Miller and Hobart representatives will also be available to provide product overviews and answer questions.

In addition, Rick Ness, Mitch Blaschke and Tony Beets will be making booth appearances daily to meet with fans, take pictures and sign autographs. For the past several seasons, they have been popular fixtures on “Gold Rush,” the Discovery Channel’s No. 1-rated reality show about gold mining, which is watched by millions each Friday night at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Miller products and technology of interest at the show include:

ArcReach™ Technology: Allows welding operators to change process parameters at the weld joint without the use of control cables. This capability helps improve productivity on stick, TIG, MIG and flux-cored welding processes by eliminating unnecessary trips to the power source and providing greater arc-on time; encourages best-practice weld settings and techniques; and improves safety by reducing tripping hazards and operator fatigue caused by excessive walking to and from the power source.

Several products and accessories displayed in the booth at MINExpo incorporate this optional technology: ArcReach Stick/TIG Remote XMT® 350 VS ArcReach, SuitCase® X-TREME™ ArcReach feeders, and Dimension™ 650 380/460 V ArcReach.

  • ArcReach Stick/TIG Remote: This new remote allows welding operators to set the amperage at the weld joint for stick and TIG welding processes, reducing downtime and improving safety. This remote eliminates the need to settle for less-than-optimal welding parameters, which helps improve quality, and it increases productivity by allowing for greater arc-on time. A new Auto-Bind™ feature automatically establishes communication between the power source and remote, and includes settings for welding with American Welding Society (AWS) EXX10 and EXX18 stick electrodes, as well as offering the ability to air carbon arc gouge.
  • XMT 350 VS ArcReach Multiprocess Welder: Portability and excellent arc performance make the XMT family a popular industry choice. This model provides multiprocess welding capabilities and is compatible with the SuitCase X-TREME 12 VS or 8 VS ArcReach feeders.
  • Dimension 650 ArcReach Multiprocess Welder: Designed specifically to withstand harsh environments in the field but versatile enough for the shop, this multiprocess welder offers an unbeatable combination of durability, output, efficiency and capability — all in a smaller, easier-to-handle package that minimizes downtime.

Big Blue® 600 Air Pak™ Welder/Generator: Provides the reliability and versatility needed for field-based work that requires single-operator power for welding, carbon arc gouging, auxiliary power, or running an air compressor to perform critical repair and maintenance functions. The 600-amp machine features a powerful EPA Tier 4 Final–compliant Deutz engine rated at 65.7 horsepower and an Ingersoll Rand screw-type air compressor, making it ideal for gouging and operating a full range of pneumatic tools.

Trailblazer® 325 Diesel Welder/Generator: Features exclusive technologies – Auto-Speed™ and optional Excel™ power – to deliver superior runtimes, increase fuel efficiency, and improve welder/generator performance. Offering unbeatable arc performance, no other compact machine in the 300-amp class delivers more welding power or more auxiliary power with better fuel efficiency and less noise — for productive, profitable, quieter jobsites.

Hobart filler metals of interest to the mining industry, include:

MEGAFIL® seamless metal-cored wires: A unique seamless wire design aids in little to no moisture pick up. The wires feature extremely low diffusible hydrogen levels (less than 4ml per 100g of weldment), which combines with the seamless design to reduce the risk of cracking. Both features make the products ideal for field applications where climates can be challenging. The addition of a copper coating improves wire feeding and provides optimal current transfer.

Hardalloy® 140 and Hardalloy 155 hardfacing stick electrodes: Overlay electrodes formulated to deposit a high chromium carbide steel. The Hardalloy 140 stick electrode can be used on surfaces subject to high abrasion coupled with some impact. It maintains its wear resistance to a temperature of 1200 degrees F and offers some corrosion resistance. The Hardalloy 155 stick electrode provides protection against extremely severe abrasion, maintains its hot hardness to 1250 degrees F and has excellent edge building capability.

FabCOR® 86R metal-cored wires: Designed with high levels of deoxidizers offering more tolerance to welding through mill scale. This wire offers high deposition rates and efficiencies to improve productivity compared to solid or flux-cored wires, and generates virtually no slag to minimize post-weld cleaning. Smooth arc characteristics and low diffusible hydrogen levels help maintain consistent weld quality and reduce the risk of cracking, respectively. Excellent for both CV and pulsed welding, the wire offers versatility for mining applications.
