Hard Surfacing Wire Offers Versatility and Impact Resistance
TROY, Ohio. March 23, 2006 - For hard surfacing applications requiring versatility and impact resistance, Hobart Brothers offers its McKay® Tube-Alloy AP-O self-shielded flux cored wire. Formulated with higher chromium content than standard austenitic manganese filler metals] Tube-Alloy AP-O works well not only for build-up and overlay on austenitic manganese steel, but also for welding on carbon and/or low alloy steel. Tube-Alloy AP-O is ideal for hard surfacing applications on a wide range of equipment, including, but not limited to: crusher jaws, cones, rolls and mantles, along with other heavy equipment that is subject to heavy impact and moderate abrasive wear.
“Tube-Alloy AP-O helps parts sustain high levels of impact by work hardening rapidly,” explains Keith Packard, Hobart Brothers’ product manager. “Protecting and repairing parts using AP-O also helps extend the wear life, which in turn can lower maintenance costs.”
Versatile Wire, Versatile Results
In addition to offering quality welds for build-up and overlay hard surfacing, Tube-Alloy AP-O can be used to join manganese steel to itself or to carbon alloy steels. “AP-O is versatile enough when it comes to heavy impact applications that welding operators can standardize on one wire,” says Packard. “If they need to join materials, perform crack repair, or weld a final build up layer, they can. There is no need to switch to another wire.”
Tube-Alloy AP-O improves corrosion resistance compared to mild steel or conventional manganese steel hard surfacing welding wires and is not limited to a maximum number of build-up layers. It can be used for single or multiple passes in the flat and horizontal position, or for welding vertical surfaces using the horizontal shelf technique.
The wire works well in semi- and automatic applications, creating minimal slag between passes to minimize downtime related to interpass cleanup. Tube-Alloy also creates minimal spatter and provides excellent weldability characteristics, making it more comfortable for welding operators to use.
