Formula XL-550 Gas-Shielded Flux Cored Wires Deliver High Impact Values
TROY, Ohio. July 7, 2006 - Hobart Brothers introduces Formula XL®-550 gas-shielded flux cored wires for single or multi-pass welding on ships, storage vessels, earth moving equipment, structural steel, offshore oil rigs, and in general mild steel applications. The new wires deliver x-ray quality welds in all positions and feature deoxidizers that cut through rust, mill scale and primers – with minimal or no pre-cleaning.
Designed for use with 100 percent CO2 shielding gas, Formula XL-550 wires are available in diameters of .045-in., .052-in. and 1/16 in. The .045-in. and .052-in. wires feature a dual classification of E71T-1 and E71T-12J H4, and the 1/16-in. wire features a dual classification of E71T-1 and E71T-12J H8. These wires offer high impact values at lower temperatures and exceed AWS Charpy V-Notch (CVN) requirements at -40 degrees Fahrenheit (required: 20 ft-lbs.; actual: 68 ft-lbs.). The Formula XL-550 design also offers an added bonus to applications that require post-weld stress relief: impact toughness is retained after stress relief.
The reduced levels of hydrogen in the Formula XL-550 flux cored wires reduce moisture pick-up and work to eliminate cracking. This formulation does not allow worm tracks to form in the weld under normal working conditions. The wire also features improved wet-in action that produces an aesthetically-pleasing, flat or slightly-convex bead contour. The new wires form only minimal slag which keeps clean-up at a minimum and/or helps expedite the welding process in multi-pass applications.
